While the idea of video chatting via a mobile phone is great, there are still a few drawbacks. It may be a hard time for iPhone 4 or other mobile phone users for getting used to video chat on a mobile device, as people use their mobile phones a bit different than other devices which offer live video chat like desktop computers, laptops or similar. When the subject is live video chatting, people generally prefer a more comfortable environment: like sitting at the desk, camera in front, maybe some appetizer and drinks?? .. and you don't have to hold still a device like a mobile phone.
Everything is different when you are enabled your mobile phone to be used as a live camera. There are people who take their phones into the bedrooms, or worse, into their bathrooms. Who can say that it is a good idea to have a FaceTime video chat when you're caught in the bathroom? Not every mobile phone situation is suitable for a video conversation.
Besides, as the nature of the mobile phones stand for, people tend to use their mobile phones almost everywhere: In a grocery store, in a supermarket, in the office.. while walking, or worse, while driving their cars. Places and situations that are hard to have a video chat.
Here are a few recommendations to use when you start a mobile video chat.
- You may want to ask your partner first if he/she is ready to start a video chat, before sending a video chat request to that person.
- Try holding your mobile device still and try pointing the camera of your mobile phone into your eyes, so your partner may have an eye-contact with you. It will be disturbing to watch a video chat which shows your partner's hair, arms.. anythink other than his face, especially eyes.
- You are used to having a regular conversation even when you're walking, but in the case of a video chat: stand still. That's better, and less disturbing for your partner.
- Most of the cafe's in the town may be offering free Wi-Fi, but do you really think that's a good place to have a loud video chat conversation? It is obvious that one thing which is more disturbing than having a loud phone conversation in the crowd is having a loud video chat conversation. So, better stay away from the crowd, or respect other people.
- Wear your pants or underwear. That is and old saying that people in corporate teleconferences never wear their pants on. Don't do it unless you know the people you're having a FaceTime video chat well.
- Always doubt that your screenshot may be taken in a way, or worse, your video may be recorded. OK, that's a lower probability when you're video chatting on a mobile device, but who knows? |
